Why CNN’s second streaming attempt might just work CNN EVP of Digital Products Alex MacCallum told The Wrap that CNN’s research suggests “there are 18 million people in the United States alone who are not cable customers, who are interested in CNN, and who have indicated a willingness to pay for something from us.”Eighteen million subscribers would be a serious achievement, and highly unlikely in the near term, writes Michael Calderone for The Wrap. Calderone further notes that The New York Times, often used as the benchmark for large-scale digital news subscriptions, has 12 million subscribers and aims for 15 million by 2027, even with popular add-on products such as Cooking and Games. MacCallum also discussed the previous launch and highlighted that All Access is a “core offering,” whereas CNN's previous streaming attempt was a product designed to complement CNN. All Access will feature various shows that are not available on the cable channel. It will also offer significantly more live coverage than CNN+.
