He's set to be interviewed by President Donald Trump this week, CNBC's Steve Liesman reported. Trump has signaled that Kevin Warsh and Kevin Hassett are the frontrunners to succeed Powell, however. Waller, who was appointed to the Fed's board by Trump and confirmed by the Senate in late 2020, has emerged this year as one of the central bank's strongest voices pushing for rate cuts. The Fed lowered rates by a quarter point at each of its past three meetings. Waller previously dissented in July, when policymakers opted to keep rates unchanged.Subscribe to CNBC on YouTube.
