Key PointsCable and satellite TV decline as people cut costs, preferring streaming alternatives.A key streamer launches a discounted deal to attract new subscribers amid industry-wide price hikes.Streaming prices rise due to content costs; bundles and flexible packages become more common.Cable and satellite TV are increasingly becoming a thing of the past. For our grandchildren, they will just be a thing they heard about from their grandparents, kind of like a landline is for our kids today. People are ditching cable and satellite more than ever, not only because streaming offers a more convenient way to watch content, but also due to the expense. More and more Americans are tightening their wallets. If they are reducing their spending on essential things, including food, they are definitely trying to save on nonessential expenses, such as entertainment. In fact, nearly 64% of cord-cutters dropped a streaming service in the past year due to rising costs or switched to a cheaper or ad-supported plan, according to a report by All About Cookies. Streaming platforms aren’t necessarily cheaper, but many offer more affordable options, such as special bundles, genre-specific packages, or ad-supported plans, with some providing deals for new subscribers. One of the key streaming platforms offers a special deal to attract new subscribers. STARZ launches a $1 per month deal for new subscribers for the entire year. — Source: PJ McDonnell/Shutterstock STARZ launches $1 per month new-subscriber deal for entire year Major streaming giants often offer their best deals and promotions around the holidays, especially for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. That’s not the case for STARZ, since the network behind the popular historical fantasy franchise “Outlander” rolled out a major discount earlier this fall. In September 2025, STARZ launched a significantly discounted offer for new customers, allowing them to choose from two options: $3 per month for the first three months. $1 per month for the next 12 months. Even though the deal launched a few months ago, it is still live and available, according to The Streamable. How to get the STARZ discounted deal To claim the special STARZ offer: Go to the official STARZ website’s Holiday Sale page. Select one of the two offers: monthly plan ($3 per month) or annual plan (prepay $11.99 for 12 months). Click “Claim Special Offer.” Enter your email address to create an account. Enter payment details and finish signing up. STARZ online streaming services are only available through participating partners located in the United States or Puerto Rico. For a $12 per year or $3 per month (for the next three months), subscribers can watch STARZ’s biggest hits, such as: “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” “Spartacus: House of Ashur” “Power Book IV: Force” STARZ’s offering also include a wide range of popular movies, both classics and newer ones, from “When Harry Met Sally” and “E.T.” to “Maleficent” and “Looper.” STARZ discounted offer comes as other streaming giants hike prices STARZ’s affordable offer comes at a time when major streaming platforms are raising prices amid increased competition. Streamers that hiked prices in 2025: Netflix raised prices after revealing its last quarter of 2024 brought in 18.9 million new subscribers. Fubo increased prices by $5 per month on all its English-language plans for new subscribers, according to The Streamable. Apple TV raised prices for the third time in three years, reported CNBC. Disney+ raised the monthly price from $9.99 to $11.99 and an ad-free plan from $15.99 to $18.99 per month, according to Mac Rumors. HBO Max also increased its subscription fees across all plans, reported Tech Crunch. Earlier this year, similar moves were made by other streamers including Peacock, Dropout.tv, and Paramount. Deutsch said the volume of required content is also pushing prices higher, and he foresees more consolidation and fewer big players. Subscribers will likely see more “old-fashioned bundle” offerings, Deutsch added. Deutsch was right on point, as one of the key streaming providers, YouTube TV, recently confirmed the launch of more than 10 genre-specific packages, providing more choice and flexibility to subscribers.
