Well, something is getting close. That would be the newly added kids’ movie that just hit Netflix and is already #2 on the Top 10 list. And when I saw it, my brain started singing the theme song immediately. It’s Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie. If you have a younger kid who watches TV at all, there is probably at least an 85% chance they’ve seen Paw Patrol, the nearly never-ending series of pups with jobs and cars they use to save Adventure Bay and its citizens. Well, The Mighty Movie goes beyond that concept and is about saving an entire city, if not the world, and foiling two foes in the process. My son has watched this, I don’t know, 20 times? If he’s going to watch something, Disney or Pixar classics seem like the better option (I would watch Frozen over this many times over at this point), albeit the first few times I at least appreciated the Paw Patrol outing a bit. Paw Patrol: The Mighty MovieNetflixHere, a meteor fragment gives the pups superpowers, which has happened in the show once or twice, then book adaptations of the show I am also tasked with reading, but this is the most “epic” version of the tale. Each pup gets powers vaguely related to their current abilities:MORE FOR YOURyder – Super FastRubble – Super StrongMarshall – Shoots Fire (uh, shouldn’t a fire dog be putting out fires?)Zuma – Shoots water, turns into waterRocky – Creates green floating super tools like Green LanternSkye – Flies without her usual planeLiberty – Is sad she does not get powers for whatever reason, but eventually becomes stretchy (spoilers, I suppose). The bad guys are, of course, Mayor Humdinger, but also new villain Victoria Vance, who want the meteor and powers for themselves. The movie mainly focuses on Skye as its lead, who unlike the show, is voiced by current Gen Z icon McKenna Grace, rather than Kallan Holley, who did Skye’s voice for 129 episodes. I’m not joking when I saw there is a genuinely emotional finale moment where it’s up to Skye to save everyone, practically Iron Man Endgame style, but no, no funeral follows. While after nearly two dozen viewings, this movie has borderline driven me insane, it could be worse. I’m just telling you this is here because if you turn on Netflix and your kids spot Paw Patrol, which is almost never on Netflix, you may be about to watch this yourself. Once, twice.
